You may be on your Amsterdam holiday or Amsterdam city trip and you find yourself listening to a street performer making excellent music from his saxophone, guitar, or flute. With every musical instrument that comes along the way also presents a unique science that is behind the creation of these tools of music. It is fun to analyze and see what minds that the first people have to create music from just a combination of tubes, holes, and strings.

How is the sound produced?

sound mixerA sound is produced by creating a vibration. When you hear about sound waves, this refers to the way the sound travels from one medium to another. The vibration that certain kinds of items produce creates sound waves which, if they are combined, makes good music. For you to create music, you have to have a medium, a source, and a receiver. The strings or the reeds of the instrument is the source utilized to create music. The medium can be any way for the vibration to travel from the place where the music is created from. And the receiver amplifies or interprets the music that is being created.

Vibrating sources

You have various vibration sources. It can be from your own vocal cords. It can be from strings or reeds. The vibrations are created by giving tension on the body. When you put your finger and strum the strings, you create vibration. The vibration then travels from the musical instrument to the receiver, who can be your audience, using water or air.

Difference between noise and music

You have a thin line separating noise and music. The latter is made by creating an organized pattern of vibrations so that it sounds pleasing to the receiver. This sound has pitch and rhythm. Noise, on the other hand, is just random vibrations that anyone can make.
